Hayden Williams - Fashion Illustrator

Hayden Williams is a British fashion illustrator and designer, whos drawings include famous faces such as Beyonce, Audrey Hepburn as well as interpretations of female Disney characters in the style of Vogue covers. His illustrations mainly cover elegant, slightly vintage classy fashion, that is very bright and colourful. I have decided to use him in my research as I like his interpretation of fantasy characters, and the outfits he designs which can relate to the fantasy topic.






Annie Leibovitz - Photographer

Annie Leibovitz is an iconic fashion and celebrity photographer, who has worked with magazines such as Vanity Fair and Vogue, as well as celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Queen Elizabeth. A lot of her work does show at least some fantasy elements, and she has worked with Disney to recreate popular fairytales, and Karl Lagerfeld with fantasy influences. Her work also shows consistent, and recognisable colour and saturation that goes well with the fantasy elements.


Tim Burton - Filmmaker and artist

Tim Burton is an iconic filmmaker and artist who is renown for fantasy and animation films such as A Nightmare before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland and Edward Scissorhands. All of his work shows highly eccentric elements such as bold colour, strong themes of fantasy and dreams. I have chosen to look at his work as I like how eccentric, bold and relating to fantasy his work is, and I get strong influence from his work such as animals dressed up and rag dolls.











Walt Disney - Filmmaker and animator

Walt Disney was a world famous animator, and film maker, who pioneered and developed cartoons, including Snow White in 1937 which was the first full length animated full length film. He developed fairytales and made iconic characters that still last today. Since he started, the Disney brand has expanded dramatically and made even more films such as Tangled. I have looked at him as an artist as he pioneered in fantasy films and animation.



Stanislav Istratov -  Photographer

Stanislav Istratov is a beauty and fantasy photographer from Kiev, Ukraine. Although he shoots both beauty and fantasy, fantasy takes priority. The fantasy photography he shoots is very dark and bloody, often featuring women rather than men. His work has a vintage steam punk feel to it as well, which is one of the main reasons I have looked at his work.













Federico Chiesa - Photographer

Federico Chiesa is a Italian conceptual and Editorial photographer who's work shows ideas of, or at least vaguely relates to the idea of fantasy in a dark way. His work shows clear influence from iconic horror films, with a twist - such is shown in the image on the left taking ideas from The Shinning.  I have decided to look at his work as I like how it fuses horror and dark fantasy into the modern, everyday world.

Rankin is a highly influential, world renown British photographer who has worked with celebrities such as Kate Moss and Miley Cyrus and various magazines including InStyle and Dazed and Confused. I have chosen to include his work in my research as although he does not focus on fantasy photography, a lot of his work has eccentric aspects that can be linked to the idea of fantasy. Particularly with his beauty photography.











Baz Luhrmann - Filmmaker

Baz Luhrmann is a highly iconic filmmaker who's portfolio includes The Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet.  His films are instantly recognisable due to the colours used, and the otherall theatrical finish from speech and costume to setting and colour. I have chosen to include his work as it clearly shows ideas of fantasy, in a bold, theatrical way.





Kirsty Mitchell - Photographer

Kirsty Mitchell is a British photographer who is most known for her Wonderland series inspired by literature. I have chosen to include her in my research as I love how beautiful and elegant her images her representing a fantasy idea. Her images have a very strong fine art feel as well which is shown though use of colour and composition.

Joshua James is a horror photographer based in Sacramento, California. As well as being a photographer, he also digitally retouches all of his images a lot to give a heavier horror look. He mainly uses models - mostly female - portraying them as antagonists. I have decided to include his work in my research as I like the gothic, bloody look of his work.

Richard Avedon was a highly influential fashion, documentary and editorial photographer. Although he did not specifically a fantasy photographer, his work showed extravagant and and elaborate themes that can be interpreted as fantasy. I included his work as I like how classy and elegant his work is, but also how diverse.

Viona Ielegems is a gothic horror photographer. Although she focuses mainly on horro themes throughout her work, she also has created some lighter fantasy inspired images as well. I have decided to look at her work as I like how macabre it is, and also how it connects well with the ideas of fashion and beauty.





Thomas Czarnecki - Photographer

Tomas Czarnecki is a photographer based in Paris, France. His work ranges slightly covering different styles although almost all of his images show reference to ideas of fantasy and surrealism. He is also a advertising photographer. I chose to include his work as I like the darker shoots he has done.

Erlend Monk is a dark horror photographer from Bergen, Norway. He manipulates images using Photo Shop to get realistic, surreal dark images portraying diffferent themes and meanings. I have chosen to look at his work as I like his used of photo manipulation to enhance his work.

She uses photography as a way to put forward every day scenarios and her thought and feelings, altering to show them from a gorey perspective. I have chose to look at her work as I like the realistic elements combined with the horror ideas.

He mainly does work for Vogue, but has worked with other major magazines such as W and I-D. I  chose to include his work as I like how he uses elements of fantasy to create statement images.

Dian Goldstein is a photographer from Canada. She takes different iconic stories, ideas or things - such as Disney Princesses and Barbie and put them in a alternate universe. I chose to include her work as I like how it shows a contrasting image to how what she shoots is normally seen.

Erik Johansson is a Swedish photographer and retoucher based in Germany. His work is mainly commissioned, and personal. I have chose to include his work as it touches on real life ideas, and because how well he uses Photo Shop to bring his ideas to life.

Brian Walker is an Australian contemporary photographer. He uses surreal ideas to show different twist on popular social ideas, through fashion and beauty photography. I have chose to include his work as I like how bright and colourful it is visually, but how dark some of the ideas are.
